Overview

There is a growing demand for further education and credentials in the area of addiction. You may have a professional and academic background similar to our current candidates. Are you a licensed addiction professional with a bachelor or master’s degree who has taken professional and continuing education courses?  If you are, you may have completed all the needed coursework for your master’s or doctorate.  An examination may be required to convert this coursework into graduate credit.

The faculty are practicing professionals who possess at least one earned doctorate and who are good communicators.  Therefore, both theory and practice are integrated for the education that is required for your professional growth and recognition.

Accreditation and Affiliations

International University for Graduate Studies is accredited by the Ministry of Education of the Federation of St. Kitts & Nevis, a Caribbean nation that has been a member of the British Commonwealth and of UNESCO since 1983 and is included in the World Higher Education Database which is published by the International Association of Universities.

Official letters conferring and explaining our accreditation are posted on the University’s web site. IUGS is included in the World Higher Education Database, maintained by the International Association of Universities. Founded in 1950, the IAU is an NGO maintaining formal associate relations with UNESCO and is listed online at http://www.unesco.org/iau/onlinedatabases/list.html.

Accreditation from a sovereign country is the highest form of accreditation.

In addition, the University has:

•Approval for tuition reimbursement and payment from major U.S. hospitals, unions, government agencies and private institutions;

•Co-sponsored continuing-education programs with U.S. and International certification, licensing agencies and organizations;

•Graduates who are in private practice and hold or have held key positions in many academic, government and private institutions.


How Long does it take to earn the degree?

On a part-time basis, most candidates are anticipated to complete their degree requirements within eighteen months.  The determining criteria are dedication and the candidate's previous academic and professional portfolio.

 

Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) and Doctor of Psychology (Psy.D.) Degree Requirements

  • A relevant master's degree

  • Documented pertinent professional experience

  • Certification or licensure as an alcohol and drug counselor

  • 93 credits*, which include the following.

Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.)

  • 66 post-baccalaureate graduate credits* in transfer, prior to, or after admission.

  • Research and design, I, II (6 credits)

  • The 7-day; Graduate Seminar at the 10 day residency in St. Kitts (3 credits)

  • A Dissertation and Oral Defense (18 Credits).

 

Doctor of Psychology (Psy.D.)

  • 68 post-baccalaureate graduate credits* in transfer, prior to, or after admission.

  • Research and design, I, II (6 credits)

  • The 7-day; Graduate Seminar at the 10 day residency in St. Kitts (3 credits)

  • A project and Oral Examination (12 Credits).

 

Master of Arts (M.A.) and Master of Science (M.S.) Degree Requirements

  • A relevant bachelor's degree

  • Documented pertinent professional experience

  • Certification or licensure as an alcohol and drug counselor

  • 45 credits*, which include the following.

Master of Arts (M.A.)

  • 27 post-baccalaureate credits* in transfer, prior to, or after admission.

  • Research and design I, (3 credits)

  • The 7-day; Graduate Seminar at the 10 day residency in St. Kitts (3 credits)

  • A Thesis and Oral Defense (12 Credits).

 

Master of Science (M.Sc.)

  • 27 post-baccalaureate credits* graduate credits in transfer, prior to, or after admission.

  • Research and design I, (3 credits)

  • The 7-day; Graduate Seminar at the 10 day residency in St. Kitts (3 credits)

  • A Project and Oral Examination (12 Credits).

*All relevant graduate credit, including those credits from graduate degrees, as well as approved graduate-level, continuing-education, certification and licensing coursework
