International University for Graduate Studies is accredited by the Ministry of Education of the Federation of St. Kitts and Nevis, a Caribbean nation that has been a member of the British Commonwealth, the United Nations, and UNESCO since 1983.

IUGS is included in the International Handbook of Universities, the List of Universities of the World, and the World Higher Education Database CD-ROM (WHED), which are published by the International Association of Universities (IAU).

Founded in 1950, the IAU is an NGO maintaining formal associate relations with UNESCO.

Accreditation from a sovereign country is the highest form of accreditation.
